That doesn't make sense because Microsoft doesn't collect platform fees. It's an open platform.  Not sure how else to explain this. I can make a PC game for PC and I don't have to pay Microsoft a damn thing. Xbox does have platform fees and thus is a different platform.  Also every game on Xbox is not available on PC and vice versa.  

When developers list platforms for their game they differentiate between PC and console. 

It benefits windows as a whole, simple as that. It adds to people wanting windows. this benefits them greatly as it's their biggest profit sector.



 

Which may be the case,  but it doesn't change the fact that PC is a different platform from Xbox. We don't say Star Citizen or any other PC game is under the Xbox fold. Games are cheaper on PC for a reasons. One of which is that developers and publishers don't give Microsoft a platform cut like on Xbox. 

Of course it's beneficial to Microsoft. OP said Xbox vs PS4 not PS4 vs everything that involves Microsoft.
