And the situation you described is no big deal because its extremely rare. Thats why Gears is already on PC. Thats why other deals always include PC releases. Thats why MicroS. y can charge for online play while PC has it free. Thats why the consoles digital stores can be loaded with high priced games while the PC market gets them for massive discounts. The overlap just isnt there. So yeah, the worry about it and the doom and gloom isnt really neccessary |
How do you know how prevelant the overlap is? If the overlap is so small, then why hold back any games at all? You don't think there was money to be made by bringing Halo 5 or Forza 6 to PC? You don't think any of it had to do with Phil Spencer being able to stand on a stage and say "Doesn't this new Halo game look sweet? Want it? Then buy an Xbox One!"? Because remember, it's not just PC/Console overlap. The marketing weight of being able to call a game exclusive without an asterisk next to it means something. How much more buzz would there have been if Shenmue III, or Kojimas new game, or even NMS, had been full PS4 exclusives?
What doom and gloom? I said that having those games on PC was good for MS. It's also better for gamers and the devs since more people get to play those games. The only negative thing I said was that it makes the Xbox One a harder sell and I stand by that. The smaller it's exclusive list gets the less reasons there are to buy one.
And on a more personal note, I'm glad these games are coming to PC because it means I can play them without having to buy another console. I plan on picking up Ori the next time it goes on sale, I'm really excited for Cuphead, I'll be getting Gears Ultimate when it comes out, and I'm really happy to hear that Recore is coming to PC so that I can get it.
I'd also totally buy Forza and Halo games for PC if MS would let me (incase Phil Spencer has wondered way off the beaten path and is reading this).

I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.
