Of course it doesn't. But here is the thing, In America the DS sold in 11.75 million units in 2008, in 2009 the DSi launched and sales for the year increased to 13.06m. Here with the 3DS the console sold in 2.41 million units in 2014 and for the first 9 months of 2015 the console has sold in 1.5 million units. Software sales are down as well. Hardware isn't selling anywhere near the rate the DS was at this point (when aligned) so it makes the 3DS very much dead at this point. Revenue from handheld gaming software is <3% of the overall market where as tablet and smartphone revenue is more than 25% of the total market in the U.S.
You suddenly think 2016 is going to be bigger than 2015 without the release of another new SKU or something? Because the only reason 3DS didn't decline this year is because of New 3DS. |
Like I said, just because it isn't doing as well DS or other previous handhelds doesn't make it dead, we know that smartphones/tablets have affected the handheld market but again that doesn't make 3DS dead. If it's dead this year than it means it was dead last year as well since USA 2014 & 2015 sales will be very similar.
I already acknowledged that software sales are down but u seem to ignore that lack of big releases is a major reason for that decline, small niche titles and mid size spinoffs are clearly not going to perform nearly as well as Smash or Pokemon.
Did I ever say 2016 was going to be bigger? Nope, it will be 3DS 6th year on the market and a successor will potentially be released. My only point was that dead was an exaggeration, declining or under performing describe it well but dead is a bit over the top, especially since it will be a small decline from last year.
