One would hope that the story would be strong enough to not depend on a feminist point of view to sell and get attention. Not that I have anything against feminists. Its just that shouldn't be the only reason for choosing a girl. It should be story driven and related.

I take the whole discussion as "here's a chance of saying something positive about the game that could translate to headlines and discussions where the game's name will be repeated and help promote it".

Doesn't mean there is not an honest artistic intention behind the game's story though.
