Actually I can see lots of benefits for consumers and both companies. Let's face it, Nintendo is fighting to survive these days. Wii U bombed and handhelds are on their way out thanks to smartphones. A joint-venture with Microsoft would be awesome. MS covers the huge costs for R&D and build (finally) a powerful console for Nintendo again. MS builds the online infrastructure (Xbox Live) so that Nintendo can (finally) make their online gaming fun. Nintendo concentrates on what they can do best: Build games. MS gets the benefit that they finally get a userbase in Japan and a better position in Europe outside of UK and Scandinavia. |
Nintendo is making money even with Wii U, and now they will launch mobile games, completely new NX platform and they start to aggressively use their IPs. Nintendo can cover the costs for R&D and build powerful console itself, if they want. DeNA is making now online Infracstructure for Nintendo. Nintendo online gaming is very fun currently, Mario Kart, Smash Bros and Splatoon all works without any problems and they are very fun. Nintendo is always concentrates on what they can do best, building games.
Gaming division don't earn much money for Microsoft, I am not sure that they at end of day from first Xbox till today they have made profit at all, on other hand they would need to pay 10 of billions of dollars for Nintendo and not knowing at all if that will change anything. If MS really thinks that buying Nintendo would be good move for them, they would buy them long ago, but also I dont think that Nintendo is for sale at all. :)
