I haven't played any Kirby game to know, but your hints lead me to believe you're talking about Super Star.

This is one of the three games on my DSlite that I always went back to, even after 100% I kept going back and replaying it, trying to beat my times, trying to master everything about the game. It was insane fun and I still get the craving to play it from time to time to this day (tho I never do).
