Firstly, a game that complex requires a lot of money, money to hire artists, programmers, testers, voice actors, mo-cap actors, marketing, etc. And you need to make back that money you spent developing it, with profits. Was it worth it? GOTY awards and gamers thought so. Even if you try to make a clone of it, directly cloning a game like that will get you a nasty copyright lawsuit, not to mention media outlets and gamers alike will despise this game and the developers for the plagiarism. |
Sales is just one parameter I mentioned. TLOU also had an enormous marketing budget while Minecraft's (marketing) budget was modest at first and only started increasing because of its success. Why would a TLOU clone get you nasty lawsuits and a Minecraft clone not? As if TLOU was such an original game...
