Written text is not the same as spoken words. Text (and spoken words) can be very easily misunderstood but unlike a spoken conversation you can write too much before you get a reaction and can modify your words.
I guess you do not use very much profanity when speaking to a priest or a police (and I hope you do not use it when speaking to your mother).
You talk differently to your buddies than to someone you want to hook up with.
On forums you often do not know who you are addressing.
