You guys, it's called oppression. An example: Women have, for a very long time, been subjected to falsified claims that they are not as capable, don't deserve the same rights, etc.
Transgender is barely accepted in most social circles. Gay people just got the right to marry which amounts only to legal stipulations and not social acceptance to a wide variety of social groups. There are many reasons for many different opinionated people to feel upset when someone says something offensive, or it's easier to be offended as an individual if you fall under any of these categories.
Some people will get upset, others may laugh, others may tell you stfu. All you can do is move on. If what you say falls onto the wrong ears then what are you going to do? Oh well if they feel something negative but there is a simple understanding as to why they would feel something negative.
