Attraction is usually based on the person you seem most fit to father your children or have your babies. It's a survival and reproductive thing not necessarily a personality thing. So a male that is overweight is not an ideal choice for a female cause their chances of contributing to a healthy baby and taking care of that baby are not as high as someone that's in fit shape.
However our society is really pushing out of this mode into more of making personality more important which seems less shallow but probably what nature intended. Oh well.
