Many smallish communities do not like any different kind of thinking or any challenges to their assumption that 'everyone does things the way I do, cause that's all the people I know.'

I bet they would have an even bigger reaction if they taught about atheism. Over 15% of the world is atheist and extremely neglected in the political and cultural scenes.

I understand ignorance - not knowing about other ways people live because you haven't been exposed to it, is understandable. But the hostility and rage about other people believing something different is unreasonable.

And I agree, many Christans are trying to turn the USA into a Christian Nation and forget that's one of reasons for the revolution against England in 1776.

I understand people not wanting to write the sentence that makes people muslim. That's perfectly fine. The only thing that was extremely incorrect was the way parents reacted. Seriously, a simple request or note with the homework would have been smart. Yelling and screaming won't do anything. Yes, it was weird for the teachers to pick this in general, but the parents should really be ashamed of themselves for their childish behaviour.

Honestly, OP, if you think it's bad in America, go check out Europe right now; particularly France and Hungary. They make what's happening here look like child's play.

O/T: Definite overreaction, but at the same time...what exactly was the teacher expecting? You couldn't possibly have picked a worse sentence for them to copy down, especially with how sensitive of an issue Islam's supposed attempt to take over the west has become.

Christianity has a better chance of taking over America ;)

I'm being completely honest. ISIS doesn't stand a chance against America. The only true enemy America faces is itself. The people within America are so divided to the point that it feels like the Civil War. Democrat, Republic, Leftist, Right, liberal, conservative-all of these labels are just making Americans slowly become more and more untolerant of each other.

If the parents felt very uncomfortable with this, why would they go ahead and flip? A note saying "I don't want my child to do this" was all that was needed. They are acting as though Christians are 1% of the population and are getting persecuted to extinction...

I feel bad for the teachers though. They have to deal with horrible and childish parents because of a small mistake they probably overlook.
