Imo, MK shouldn't even be considered because it's a seperate genre. GT and Forza are racing sims. Mario Kart is car combat/arcade racing. Comparing MK and GT is like comparing NBA Jam and NBA 2k16. It's just silly.

Well, in GOTY lists are both games in the same genre award category? I'm pretty sure they are. Hence they are both racers and thus when you claim sales accolades you can't simply ignore MK. If you want to talk about specific features then absolutely these games are in separate categories. But Need For Speed is in a 3rd category that is neither kart not sim, and then there are still other categories of racer. If you aren't going to put a qualifier in front of "racing game" then MK and GT both belong to that category.
