Any canon single-player focused Zelda that primarily uses the buttons should be a good start for those who want the most traditonal and consistent reviewed Zelda game.
So no cdi, cross bow training, warriors, fourswords, DS, motion control, or online multiplayer Zelda games. If top-down zelda is too retro (shame) then nothing on the home console before N64. And if time management isnt your thing then not Majora's Masks either.
