Not a good enough excuse. Ps1 was going up against Nintendo and Sega who were well established world wide and look how that turned out. Exclusivity on the wrong platform from a dev who forgot who made them an insane amount of money (star ocean 2nd story, ff7,8,9,10,11,12, VP2,ETC), and continually dividing their fanbase (certain kh games on ninty, others on sony?!?). They make moves which remind me of Sega (Valkyria chronicles anyone?).
Make games, not war (that goes for ridiculous fanboys)
