The 360 handles the 1000+ objects just fine too. 
The Infernal Engine was actually made for the PS3 first and then ported over for the 360, PC, and Wii so it works pretty well on every platform.
Also, ours is in real times while the Crysis thing wasn't. I remember I found the cap on the amount of active objects I could put in a scene when those Crysis videos first came out but don't remember what those were anymore. I just remember just keeping putting stacks of 250 books in a level until my 360 crashed. I never got around to trying on the PS3 mainly because I don't have a PS3 test kit in my office.
