Well they'll lose the money from people buying the games they're putting resources into upscaling to 1080p and adding trophy support to, since there is another way of doing this by reverse engineering the BIOS out of a PS2 for use in a program not created by Sony.

Anyway tagging this for a read about encouraging people to circumvent buying games from digital marketplaces, just to see if such a thread is fine on Vgchartz forums. Just interested to see.

Seems like you got the wrong geezt of the thread.

In no way does this thread encurage people to circumvent buying games from Sonys market place.

What it does discusse is another option for people who already still owns their PS2 classics, who doesnt feel like they have to buy them again and gives them a way to reply them again in HD on their PC's.

But yes this thread is perfectly legal, same way PCSX2 and emulation talk is legal. And emulation is a big part of the PC community so it would be foolish to not allow talk of emulation as long as it doesnt go into details about playing or where to get pirate games.

But when your playing games you already paid for why shouldnt it be ok?.

Is that not right in the title of the article?
Why you should play PS2 classics on PC, not PS4

The emulator is perfectly legal, obtaining the bios is not. But it's funny how they dance around that little detail

It also touches on the one complicated part of setting up the emulator: the PS2 BIOS. While the PCSX2 code is completely legal, Sony owns the code of the PS2 BIOS. That hasn’t stopped the BIOS files from being widely distributed online, but it does mean the only free-and-clear legal way to obtain the necessary BIOS files is to dump them from your own PS2.

Then the link they provide (to pscx2 forum) dances around the legality some more

Much of the information is easy to find if you just do a Google search
for the big stuff such as the memory card exploit (aka Independence
Exploit), however I am unable to post these sites as they often do
contain links to things such as modchips etc that we do not support
here. Before starting you will need a way such as a modchip or
swapdiscs to boot custom code on your ps2
. We
will be burning a custom disc to cd-r in this tutorial so if you have
no way to boot it on your ps2, then all your work will be in vain.

We do not support mod chips, but first you need a mod chip.... Hypocrisy at its finest.
Circumventing drm is not legal, just a minor technicality. So effectively this thread does encourage people to illegally download a PS2 Bios, or jailbreak their ps2.
