OK I'll stay well clear of the mini.I also heard people saying stay away from the ps3 super slim.  Is this true? 

I have a super slim 500GB model and I love it. The sliding optical disc cover is a bit awkward but there's not much to hate about it. It's not easily modifialble. I think that's what people don't like about it. The older models allow you to run free PS3, PS1, PS2 and a slew of other retro consoles on it. It's a good console if you want to play by the rules and enjoy the experience.
