I find the final question to this thread to be a bit funny, as I feel it's a little off topic from everything presented.
That aside, personally, I find some of these practices terrible. I just shake my head when games announce their extra content before the game is even released, and for 60 dollar MP games, I'm not quite sure what to say about them. I suppose Splatoon can fall under that, but it came with a single player as well, and the MP has been really fun, although the game did first release with less than usual. But that has been given a good amount since its release.
And for episodic, I'm not a fan of that either. My solution is to just buy the complete pack when it releases.
My solution for these practices, I just don't buy games that perform them or wait for complete packages. Unfortunately, I think these things won't go away, since people will buy them anyways -_-
