At least as far as home consoles go, for now. Copped it for $250 at Fred Meyer, with a $50 gift card I was given from work. There was also a 10% discount on the controller, so overall this ran about $368 including Blops 3. I was tempted to buy the full Rock Band bundle but those should be around for a while so I'm not too worried. It was peculiar, because as I left the electronics section to go meetup with my dad, I felt really excited. This is the first gen that I have paid for the first console, rather than been given it as a gift. It was hard not to keep a big fat grin off my face.
When I got home it was kind of a bittersweet moment unplugging the PS3 and setting it aside in the living room. After paying for it second hand (I've owned probably 5 PS3s.) and having to replace a fucked up hard drive, it really only provided me as a media hub for downloaded TV shows, Netflix, a way that I could play some older PS1 classics and the occasional match of zombies online with others. One of these features though, is missed on the PS4. I'd like to be able to copy movies/tv shows from my PC to the console for storage and playback. However, that is not possible from what it looks like. With that being said, Sony absolutely -killed- it with the design of the console itself. With the battlefront bundle comes the newest revision of the PS4 and one of the differences from the OG, is the lack of a gloss finish on top of the latest version. It's basically all one color/texture and it's absurdly reminiscent of the PS2. I can't really compare how loud it gets to other models, but the only noise I ever hear from it is the initial spin up of the disc drive when booting a game.

It looks great. That light starts out playstation blue during the setup. I'm also surprised to see that the form factor is incredibly close in dimensions to the first PS3 slim. This picture is decieving due to the eraser shape of the PS4 but from the side of both of them it becomes more pronounced. I believe there was a ~300MB OS update to install, and then I was able to connect to PSN to recover my old account. Black Ops 3 installed quickly but also required an update, coming in at 2.8GB. It kind of sucked to see that Battlefront was a digital voucher. I expected the other star wars games to be, but still... I know we talk about this stuff but the little details like that go by unnoticed lol. You near instantly realize that 500GB is not enough. I'll be looking into a bigger hard drive here shortly, there's quite the backlog of games to grab.

One last thing I'd like to talk about is this fucking beautiful white controller. It's also a darastic change coming from the DualShock 3, but the builds on these things feels great! It has what seems to be an ideal weight and they're made out of a very nice feeling plastic. The color on this one looks stunning in real life. My smart phones camera is due for an upgrade though so this is the best you'll get d:
So I got the two major online shooter games I wanted, also had to pickup a 3 month Plus subscription... here's what else is on the must get list:
- BloodBorne
- The Witcher 3
- DriveClub
- The Order 1886 (It's only $20 now, I'll pay that for a tech demo)
- Rock Band 4 (I have RB1, 2, and 3 DLC. Might even try to find an ION Premium drumkit to hook up)
- Rainbowsix: Seige
and a shit ton of indie titles.
Does anyone have any recommendations?
