Final Fantasy VII Remake is episodic

I'm just curious to know what this means exactly. Are they breaking up the core story into episodes? Or will they be telling multiple stories in the same universe?  AlphaOmegaSin said there's a reason for it, and that he'll be doing a video shortly.  So, gonna wait til I hear more.
