As I just explained in the other thread, this isn't comparable. Initially FF13 was going to be a self contained experience. SE decided to let everybody run wild with sequels though since FF13 sold pretty okay. You can play each 13 game without playing any of the others though. In a way, they are all self contained experiences, although obviously you get a more complete story if you play each game in sequence. The time and gameplay differences between each title though doesn't springforth the idea of an episodic release, splitting a single story into multiple parts, but a classic way of handling sequels.
FFVII will be more like Life is Strange, where instead of FFVII-1, it will be more like FFVII: Episode One. It is a single game being broken into multiple pieces, instead of one story being spread across multiple sequels.
