That is like saying that turn based can't evolve. Aslong as it lets you make decisions for every party member within a certain time frame (aka when a bar fills up), even if the action continues in real-time, its still in essence what you do in a turn based game. I personally don't see the need for everything to pause. Actually, it didnt stop even on the original game aswell. You couldnt just stand there, the boss kept doing abilities.

From what I've noticed:
- Every time a character attacks, the first large gauge next to their name fills up.
- The first gauge goes lower after not attacking for a while.
- Then when it's full and it turns red, the character uses a more powerful attack.
What if those more powerful attacks are the equivalent of Commands? Instead of your ATB filling with TIME, it fills with ATTACKS.
The ATB has evolved, and it's freakin epic, believe it!

I think its totally correct.

Turn base can evolve, to not being turn based. Final Fantasy wasnt real turn based since the introduction of the ATB, cause there were no real turns anymore, the ATB system is the first step to the cooldown based gameplay we have on MMOs and a bunch of action RPGs nowadays. FFX was turn based tough. And that bar that fills up on attacks is most likely a Limit Break Gauge, Barret uses a LB and the bar deplets, and so does Cloud (rewatched the video, the bar doesnt deplet but you can see them using LBs at a full bar).
