Is your question "Why should Nintendo buy Sega and how is that supposed to help them?"? Because Sega has a lot of IP that would complement and give Nintendo consoles the variety that they need. And being THE game in a certain genre to get on the Nintendo platform would make Sega's own games more relevant again. Not a lot of fighters on Nintendo? Boom! Virtua fighter is the go-to fighter on Nintendo systems. Gran Turismo and Forza hogging all the racing fans? Boom! Sega Rally and Virtua racing are THE competitors on the Nintendo platform. Need realistic sports games? Sega has a series for almost every sport. Etc etc. |
SEGA have actually lost a lot of the talent that made their greats in the 90s and 00s. Also, SEGA attempted to take on Gran Turismo with SEGA GT. It stayed around for 2 iterations before being binned. It's really sad :(
Personally though, I'd lap up a Nintendo system with a full SEGA and Atlus Roster too haha.
SEGA's big problem hasn't so much been going from hardware to software etc. It's been that the market moved on while they were still rocking with their staple. (Arcade games). The market shifted to wanting 20+ hour adventures/RPGs which is just not the field much of SEGA's historic talent worked in.
