I see this as a weird competitive symbiosis, both consoles are keeping each other going, when wii had no 3rd party games, ps2 (and gamecube to a extent) to the rescue, and now that the ps2 is dying for new games wii to the rescue, i also see the ps2's survival as the gamestop effect, people can go down the street and get great used games from 2001-04 for the ps2 for about $8 where gamestops weren't as common in the days of ps1 and snes.(even though there were some for ps1)
