They're gonna be changing quite a bit, so if you can suffer through VII as it currently is you might be better off than if you wait for what could very well be Advent Children: The Game.
Personally, I'd say only play it if you're really set on wanting to play THIS FF game. There are few I'd choose VII over to be completely honest, but even something as widely criticized as X did more for me than VII does (and that's after we account for having been spoiled for both years before playing either).
