It's dragging for far too long and maybe Sony wants to give it the atention when it's finally actually close to come.

It's kind of funny and kind of saddening that Persona 3 and Persona 4 were effectively stealth released, whereas Persona 5 was first announced for 2014 (in Japan)... then 2015... and now it's supposed to come out in 2016.

I could have (and almost certainly would have) played through Persona 5 three or four times by now if it came out in 2014!
