So today being Cyber Monday I decided to buy another SSD though this time a SANDISK 240gb model and a new keyboard/mouse mat. Then of course I thought I;d finally grab that 16gb DDR3 RAM kit I've been wanting and I check out Newegg UK to see if I can find one, I find a kit for £53 and then go to checkout and this is what happens:

*pic*

Seriously what is with VAT and the shipping costs for two tiny sticks of RAM?. I live on the Isle of Man which is very much a part of the United Kingdom and isn't that much different. I also checked amazon to find the same kit going for £76 and that's without VAT charges, why does it feel like I'm entering a period where I'm facing Russian like prices?.

The problem is not the VAT (in the UK it's 20%, not 34%), it's the "& Duty" part that adds a lot.

And the shipping part... well, you live in another island .

& duty?.

I live on the Isle of Man which is practically in between the UK and Ireland, the most P&P I'd pay is near £10,not nearly £30, something is absolutely wrong here, especially for two sticks of RAM which are clearly seen in a tiny package and would involve a tiny box and be extremely light so there should be no weight or size costs added there, something else is being added from nothing.

In the pic you've posted it reads

"Estimated VAT/GST & Duty:"

Given that we don't know what that means (unless they describe it somewhere), we could assume that it is what drives the cost so much. It can be a "yes, we're on a sale but we'll make some of that money back thanks to this trick" kind of thing.

The shipping costs can be another scam.

Please excuse my bad English.

Currently gaming on a PC with an i5-4670k@stock (for now), 16Gb RAM 1600 MHz and a GTX 1070
