I wouldn't call that a good thing. Xenoblade 1 didn't have this problem, and it was a complex JRPG too.

I wouldn't call it challenging at all. There's nothing difficult about reading a manual. There's also nothing fun, engaging, or immersive about reading a manuel, hence the issue.


Did it not? Even in my third playthrough I was reading the in-game manuals on gems, gem-crafting,etc.  The manual is a requirement to enjoy that game just as much as this one. From the looks of it the issue with Xenoblade Chronicles X is just that it has more of the complicated systems, how it is demanded of you to learn about them seems no different.
