If my recollection is correct, Nintendo stated that the loss of the manufacturer was an issue, so I don't believe the contract worked out once Sony bought that factory out. No clue what they did from there, since it's Nintendo and they're always quiet about that sort of thing, but like I said IIRC they made specific note of there being a chip shortage due to a lost manufacturer. 

Could be a problem in contract renew, but I don't think they changed during curse of contract.
