Unless Iwata spontaneously decides that he got it wrong, there won't be a Wii 2 or DS 2. Any successors to those two systems produced will re-define the market again. Nintendo already made it perfectly clear that they're not playing the "incremental upgrade" game any more. "Disrupt or be disrupted" is their new strategy. Meaning they won't release a successor to either until both are in their twilight years, so long as their competitors keep going down the incremental upgrade route.

The only case where this might not happen is if a competitor disrupts the handheld and/or console market(s) (which is unlikely from Sony or MS). Then they would be obligated to respond with a disruption of their own to keep from getting consumed by the new market.
