I don't see what is wrong with both ways, clearly he isn't interested in owning the X1, then why should he? 
If he did all just to play the game, but scalebound could turn out great. 
Yes it was a huge blow to the PC and Ps4 community, especially since TR main audience is there, but Microsoft and square is already losing a lot of profit on this deal, also because they launched it at the wrong time. Why it bother's you? It's not your money :P  If he asked you, then your answer was fair as well.
