Only if Wii U had good sales, not "good" sales like what's happening.

good sales compared to the last years. Wii U sells better in 2015 than it did in 2014. Every usual company wouldn't throw out a new console at this time.

There's also a difference between "selling 3 million units every year" and selling "8 million units this year insetad of the usual 15 million units". Obviously, the console that sells 3 million units every year has more potential for the future. And that's the Wii U. Compare it with the 3DS: sales are falling and it won't take long until makes losses with it. So they are going to replace it as soon as possible -> late 2016.

Wii U is still profitable -> successor's launch in late 2017.

That's not how business works. The successor has been in talks for a long while (with awful sales throughout that time). They are not going to say: "hey guys we finally got one decent weekend of sales from one retailer, let's delay the consoles we've been planning for months by a year." Everything has been planned. The successor is set in stone, and the wii u won't be around much longer. Stop over reacting to a tiny amount of positive sales after months of horrible ones
