I'm currently doing the same thing. Going to play 1-8 on mobile. I'm currently at the end boss of DQ3 which is a fucking bitch.
It's hard to say though if you would like the earlier ones. If you like one DQ and its archaic gameplay that persisted for decades you will like them all.
I played DQ8 as my first game and I loved it, so I'm currently loving all other games.
It wouldn't hurt starting with the first one since it's pretty short and contains the essence of all games. DQ never changed(like FF) so if you played one of them you pretty much played them all.
If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.
