Dunno, if the game is set for 2016 it can be something bigger, even as I doubt it'll be gameplay.
If it's 2017 it'll likely be a teaser.
Anyway, would it mean nothing to you to see a new guy in a snowy or sandy envyronment and a nordic or egyptian god teasing the future battles?
If it's not Greek mythology anymore, which it's probably not anyway, anything they show us will be major as it'll be the setting for the new mythos the series is taking.
It would be more than enough to me.
And you can be sure people would be talking about it a lot.

Oh yeah, if it's totally different like you said, then yes, I would be hyped even with a teaser!
Regarding the date, I'm sure it's 2017. Too close to be 2016, and since Sony already have some important heavy hitters coming next year, I think they'll save GoW for 2017.
