THE ORIGINAL FALLOUT IS BEING MODDED INTO FALLOUT: NEW VEGAS

The original Fallout is still immensely playable, but it does look old. Fallout: New Vegas looks pretty old too for that matter, but this modding project, which aims to bring the story of Fallout to the New Vegas engine, is likely to be seen as an improvement by some.

 

GRATUITOUS SPACE BATTLES 2 DEVELOPER IS "MOVING ON"

The sci-fi fleet-building strategy game Gratuitous Space Battles was pretty good, but the sequel, released earlier this year, didn't measure up. We criticized it for technical problems and "easy cheese strategies" in our review, although we also said it could be saved with a combination of bug fixes and "a huge change to the game's core mechanics," through either patches or unofficial mods. And it has been updated more than a half-dozen times since then, and now stands at version 1.40. But that's where it will stop.

DOOM GETS ANOTHER MULTIPLAYER CLOSED ALPHA IN DECEMBER

Another closed alpha for DOOM is coming next week, but like the first one, those who secured beta access via Wolfenstein: The New Order preorders aren't guaranteed access. Kicking off December 3 and running until the end of December 6 (that's Eastern Time), participants will be chosen from those who redeemed DOOM beta codes included with The New Order, or those who have preordered the game digitally.

 

DYING LIGHT: THE FOLLOWING AND SEASON PASS PRICES ARE GOING UP

The upcoming Dying Light DLC The Following is apparently quite big: Big enough, according to developer Techland, to be a standalone game in its own right. It won't be, though, because doing so would force a delay in its launch—but the "increased scale" of the expansion has led the studio to decide that it needs to jack the price up a bit, along with that of the season pass.

 

ROCKET LEAGUE HOCKEY-THEMED SNOW DAY MODE DATED

On December 14 Rocket League players will be able to take to the ice in a Christmassy new game mode that replaces the ball with a giant puck. The update will also add a bunch of rare "Winter Games" items for a limited time, which you can unlock by playing. Psyonix says that if you don't get the items this time around, "you’ll have to wait until next year to get them again!"
