Everyone was too busy screaming at MS for their wacky plan at that E3. Paying a monthly fee for online seemed like a blessing compared to what MS was trying to do.

Well what options did consumers have? Xbox also charged for online play.

In fact, just recently someone told me they want a PS4 because they don't want to pay for online play on Xbox.

We had the option of not buying in back when Microsoft started XBL and major devs/pubs started removing client side server tools from their games.  If they achieved 0 sales, and a shitload of losses incurred, you would've seen that policy changed as fast as Microsoft's DRM.  But no, the immediate satisfaction crowd had to buy into it.  Nooo...don't listen to PC Gamer's, they're the deeeevil.   Gamer's made this bed, now gamer's can sleep in it.
