I personally enjoyed it. I've always found the Halo series to be shallow in the Lore dept. and this was the first one that made me want to pick up a Halo book. just picked up Fall of Reach.
It's all opinions, maybe people didn't like that 343 went deep in the lore, and people who didn't read the books Like me) got lost. For some, it makes them want to learn more, for others they cant be bothered.
For me personally, any media be it movies, or games that has an interesting story to make me want to read more about it. I think has executed very well.
