To be fair, it's not a law but a social agreement based on humans own perception of importance. That perception might have some basis in Biology as animals also give the priority to their offspring in survival situations. The idea behind this is that the most important thing for life is the continuation of life itself. For humans, is the survival of the species. Women can have children and that makes them more important. Not saying that men are useless but in order for life to continue you might have to sacrifice the weakest link. Testosterone itself could be seen as a suicidal hormone as it makes men more aggressive and careless for their survival. In a way, it's just how men were designed.
