They will also have to pay money to M$ and other patent holders to make each phone. It's not going to be a free venture. Also, considering Vita software obviously isn't flying off the shelves, where is this revenue coming from? They will have to pry people off of their Apple, Android and Windows apps to make money off of apps. Their only chance to survive in the cellphone space is to join either Android or Windows. Look at what happened to Nokia, they were a tried and true cellphone company. Their OS couldn't hang anymore and they got left behind. Blackberry shared the same fate. Those two were big dogs

Thats because they didnt demand the same kinda royalties like on handhelds. Windows phones dont make money either

M$'s own phone division might not be doing so hot, but M$ still makes money off of every Android phone sold, due to patents. They will make money off of every PlayStation phone made as well. They've changed up their mobile OS 3 times and just made a mess of it. Finally, they are where they want to be with a unified 10. So, the ground work has been laid down. They've lost Nokia in the process, but that was a big burden to take financially to begin with. Establishing a new OS and gaining it's popularity is no easy task. Years before, simple OSes could survive in the mobile space and most manufactures could profit. iPhone changed the whole mobile game and only a few can survive now.
