I think part of it is that he's a different person almost every game so unless the Legend of Zelda world is sexist in how it picks its heroes there's no particular reason that Link couldn't be female for one iteration. If Link were a single established character (like Samus which you bring up) then I doubt it would be as highly suggested. It's because with the character it makes sense and if you have a character which is a hero chosen by destiny with a fresh person everytime and you never get a female hero that seems to say something about how this world chooses its saviors.

ehhh just because Link, or the hero of time,  is reincarnated essentially through a different life form over many different periods of times and essentially universes does not mean that there are no rules in place

I don't see a problem with keeping a few things basic about Link, including the character's sex. I doubt someone like you have an issue with the fact that Link almost universally has blonde hair in every iteration, yet you're making an issue about the fact that is sex is consistent. shouldn't you be equally complaining that brunette's and red-heads might feel bitter about Link never existing with that hair color?

in the end the point to make Link female just collapses in on itself as Link, despite different variations through different beings, always has a few things that remain constant: saving the princess, being a male, has blonde-ish hair, primarily uses a sword and a boomerang and bombs. If you begin to take these things away you change what the series, and more specifically, what the character are
