Yes, they should try just the most cost-effective viable options, and obviously not even try to beat 3DS, it's far too late for that. Also, any strategy should be tried when Sony will be able to cut the price below $100 while staying profitable, to add the bonus advantage of breaking a very significant price psychological barrier. Or looking at it from the opposite side, Sony could try something to revive the brand whenever it has planned that price drop (if it's planned to ever happen), that would surely be an opportunity to use.

I think its gotten to the point Sony just doesn't want to spend money on Vita. I'm guessing they make a nice profit at $199, but they don't want to put that back into Vita. They are cutting their losses. Support its basically limited to 3rd parties.

Also, lower the price won't solve Vita's biggest issue in the US. It doesn't have games US gamers want. A bunch of niche stuff isn't going to move hardware.

The PS3 and 360 are seeing their support cut back in spite of selling significantly more software than Vita. So even if Vita were to get a sales spike, there is litle hope of support coming back.

It's funny though because (in Japan)  if Sony cut the vita to 150$ and got monster hunter 5 as an exclusive it would literally cruise to over 10m and get even more support.  Pity Microsoft doesnt own the vita because they'd definitely be willing to invest in the.

And it's powerful enough to last another gen competing against the next Nintendo handheld.  Ah well a Vita fan can dream!
