Sony should do something for PSV in USA, then it could enjoy its little niche without worries. Better sales in USA (while obviously keeping at least the current ones, or even bettering them, in Japan, Europe and rest of the world) could finally persuade Capcom to make or port a few major titles for it, including a new Monster Hunter Freedom.

Vita is done in the US. They would have to rebrand it revive any interest. And frankly I don't think Sony wants to spend the money.

Vita is the epitome of flop in the US. Nintendo owns the mobile market in the US and Sony is saving money by letting Nintendo have it.

Yes, they should try just the most cost-effective viable options, and obviously not even try to beat 3DS, it's far too late for that. Also, any strategy should be tried when Sony will be able to cut the price below $100 while staying profitable, to add the bonus advantage of breaking a very significant price psychological barrier. Or looking at it from the opposite side, Sony could try something to revive the brand whenever it has planned that price drop (if it's planned to ever happen), that would surely be an opportunity to use.
