It's confirmed in patents and dev kits. The NXDS will be a separate device, as told by Iwata years ago.

Nintendo has many, many patents they never used. Years ago they patented some "data crystals", never seen till now :)

 

Currently there is not even a slight evidence that a NX console would have a second screen.
