Purism has no place in Final Fantasy. Every Final Fantasy changed the formula a bit, that's the tradition. Sticking to the old gameplay would make this remake to a remaster.
If you want tried and true old fashioned gameplay, go to Dragon Quest.
If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.
