I don't think it's as simple as Sakurai wanting to do two versions. Nintendo wanted to do two versions, and the way they handled that is very telling of how they will handle games like these in the future. If you own only one platform, you get 90%-95% of the whole experience. If you own both, you automatically get 100%, with no added cost. In fact, I wouldn't be suprised if there was an additional benifit to owning both. Smash did it with Mewtwo, and HW is doing it by tranferring those exclusive characters to the Wii U version.

Hmm, you do raise a good point there with Mewtwo. I just hope they don't end up doing that. Sounds like a dirty way to get people to buy their products.... : X
