I don't get why anyone would think the N64 was a well designed controller. Three branches that, when you hold the middle one, prevents access to some controller parts. 

Plus, your wrists need to take a really cramped position when you hold the middle branch.

This is what people don't seem to understand. Have you used it? No just held it, used it? You don't ever have to use all three handles on the controller for any single game. It is almost always only the middle and the right one, and a handful use only the left and right. If to use the middle and right in a game, the D-Pad, if used at all, only has a mundane assignment like toggling a mini-map on and off.

It was a well designed, and comfortable controller.
