bleak for a company with like 10 billion in cash reserves and some of the most valuable character IPS in the world? people can say what they want but Nintendo is not doing that poorly when you look at them as a whole with their 3DS and Amiibo's the Wii U has been doing poorly since out of the gate. what did you all expect from this Nintendo Direct, a bunch of magical new titles for a system that nobody is buying? get realistic you all, Nintendo has been thinking about and planning for the NX for a while. they have supported the Wii U fine, a lot better than some other companies (cough Sony / Vita) the reality is that if Nintendo integrates their handheld and home console divisions they will have a smash success again. it's inevitable with having the Pokemon, Mario, Zelda, Animal Crossing, Metroid, etc. IPs in fact Nintendo has tons of room to work with, they have been criminally underusing certain IPS (Pokemon on home consoles, F-Zero, numerous RPG handheld franchises (cough Golden Sun), etc.) get more realistic with your hopes guys! Nintendo Direct is supposed to be a communication device for Nintendo to show fans what to expect but it's not some E3 big reveal thing where they announce loads of games or necessarily present some revolutionary thing. I feel like a lot of people are being unrealistic with expectations and giving Nintendo an unjust hard time |
Yes, very bleak. It doesn't matter how much cash you have rotting on your account when you are being forced out of your only business. Don't you think that the last 5 years already have been extremely bleak for a company that used to generate such massive profits? Don't you think N faces an uphill battle to remain on the gaming market? It already is almost redundant in home console space and mobile is going to gut the handheld division. Nintendo is up against the wall and they have to make a big time move.
Everyone here is realistic, why are you implying something else? I was expecting this ND to be shit, it was shit, so why calling it shit is being unrealistic?
Vita has a library twice as big as Wii U and the gap is only going to grow larger, so stop fooling yourself that Nintendo did a better job with Wii U that Sony with Vita. It didn't.
@bold - you are the one who should get realistic. Nothing is inevitable. Nintendo has to come out all guns blazing with a mindblowing offer much better than the competition to even get anyone's attention at this point. You see MS giving better Xbone offers than Sony with PS4 and people still choosing PS4? Nintendo is in an even worse situation than MS. They are on the outside looking in and NX is pretty much an all-in move in their case. They are not only losing market share, but also mind share, thus taking a "smash success" for granted is absurd, when they have to fight to even remain on the market. They can survive, they can succeed, but it's not granted in their current situation and will require a lot of work on their part - something I haven't seen from them since the peak years of Wii.
Wii U is a GCN 2 - I called it months before the release!
My Vita to-buy list: The Walking Dead, Persona 4 Golden, Need for Speed: Most Wanted, TearAway, Ys: Memories of Celceta, Muramasa: The Demon Blade, History: Legends of War, FIFA 13, Final Fantasy HD X, X-2, Worms Revolution Extreme, The Amazing Spiderman, Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate - too many no-gaemz :/
My consoles: PS2 Slim, PS3 Slim 320 GB, PSV 32 GB, Wii, DSi.
