Well, the review embargo lifted on the 9th, that could be part of it.  A bundle purchase is a larger financial obligation, added security of good reviews would help push that.  The performance could influence it, maybe, but I just don't see it doing much.  The core of the core are the ones following news close enough to get sucked into such a brief flurry news.  And Fallout 4 has appeal well outside that relatively narrow group.  And the people following news that much are also going to have the sense to wait and get confirmation.  Of course, maybe I'm just putting too much faith in humanity there :P

You're putting too much faith in humanity. The PS4 framerate news went viral and was on Twitter too. Hit Twitter, you hit 'EVERYONE'. I'm not saying that's the ONLY reason of course, and everything you've said will definitely have had an impact. I just think that little extra boost to push it ahead of the Gears bundle this late in the day is related to the PS4 framerate news to a large degree (put not entirely).

Yeah, I suppose I'm just a big idealist under the cold, cold shell of my heart :P

But one other factor to consider is gift buyers.  People buying these things to stuff in their attic or something for the next month and a bit aren't likely to preorders or be desperate to have it the second it launches.  AND non-gamer gift buyers are less likely to care about which platform the game is on and more care about which platform has the better deal/bundle.   So that could also explain the jump.  Of course, it's likely a mix of all the above.
