I know its an old story but I do agree with it.
games need to start with gameplay first - graphics are then the level you want to aim for based on the game.
It's also important to understand that graphics can make a difference but can't change core gameplay.
Uncharted and GoW on 360 are both very good duck and cover shooters IMO - both play well and are engaging and deserve the praise they got. That both looked fantastic added to their immersion but it would only be gloss without the underlying gameplay.
It reminds me of the old argument about films - great script first, then shoot it. Of course all too often now its work out the action scenes and try and out CG the last film without worrying about story/dialogue...
Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...
