The marketing cost are usually way higher for a game like this, than the full cost of production. The usual sweetener is to reduce the license fee for every copy sold.
At the end of the day, there is no way CD can win with this one. The game will flop this week. The adverts, which usually people watch and then go out and buy the game on their system of choice will not have that affect. Then a year later, they will have to take a good chunk of their profits and advertise the game themselves.
Next year they will be stupidly releasing into the same crazy launch window yet again. No doubt against the likes of Horizon, Last Guardian, Mass effect 4, GT sport, Final Fantasy 15 and the usual big multi plats.
CD have pulled out their own knife, and performed their own Hara Kiri. I'm not sure this series will ever recover now.
